Prerequisites
- An AWS account with admin access (to deploy the IAM role)
- A ZapStack account at app.zapstack.io
Step 1: Create a ZapStack Account
1
Sign Up
Go to app.zapstack.io and sign in with Google.
2
Create Organization
Enter your company name to create your organization.
Step 2: Connect Your AWS Account
1
Get CloudFormation Template
From your ZapStack dashboard, navigate to Settings > AWS Accounts and click Add Account.
2
Deploy to AWS
Click the Launch Stack button to open AWS CloudFormation with our pre-configured template.
3
Create Stack
Review the IAM permissions and click Create Stack. The stack creates a read-only IAM role that ZapStack uses to scan your resources.
4
Confirm Connection
Once the stack is created, return to ZapStack. Your account will appear in the list.
The CloudFormation stack typically deploys in under a minute. ZapStack will automatically detect the new role.
Step 3: Run Your First Scan
1
Select Account
From the dashboard, select the AWS account you just connected.
2
Start Scan
Click Run Analysis to begin scanning your AWS resources.
3
Review Results
Once complete, you’ll see a summary of findings organized by:
- Unused Resources - Resources with no activity
- Optimization Opportunities - Ways to reduce costs
- Idle Resources - Underutilized infrastructure
